Title I

Title I funds support students who scored below grade level on district approved language arts assessments or who are referred by their teachers.  Title I is part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), which was first signed into law in the 1960’s.  The “No Child Left Behind Act” is the reauthorization of the ESEA that was signed into law in January 2002.  Title I provides funding to boost the quality of education for economically disadvantaged children.  Since over 50% of the students who attend Montezuma ES meet the federal criteria for economically disadvantaged, we receive funding.  Because Montezuma is aTitle I school, all students benefit.
